Here are portions of a letter we received from an experienced Collision Reconstructionist and Fleet Manager who responded to a violent collision involving one of his office’s vehicles:
Mr. Kevin Pintar:
…I have been a Collision Reconstructionist for 18 years and the Fleet Manager for the Sheriffs’ Office, tasked with the procurement and up-fitting of all of our patrol vehicles. We began purchasing your products in 2009 and have been very happy with the quality and durability of them.
In a high speed chase incident, one of our parked patrol cars was struck head-on by a subject driving a pickup at speeds in excess of 100 MPH. Thank God, no one was in the patrol car.
As a Collision Reconstructionist, I was amazed at the destruction to the Police Interceptor. It was knocked backwards into another patrol car, and rolled over on top of it. I initially believed that all items of equipment in the front seat area would be a total loss. At the time of the collision a Department issued Colt M-4 Carbine, was inside the patrol car. The rifle was positioned in between the front seats in a Blac-Rac tactical weapons rack. The barrel was in the up position with the carrying handle facing the dash.
Upon further inspection I could see the barrel of the rifle poking up behind the driver’s seat. The impact of the collision had pushed the driver’s and passenger’s seats almost together and had collapsed the prisoner partition into the back seat area. We were able to recover the rifle from the Blac-Rac and found that even though the rifle had taken an impact severe enough to dent the carry handle, it was still serviceable. The Blac-Rac had protected and secured the rifle.
The Sheriff’s Office and I couldn’t be more pleased with our Blac-Rac Tactical Weapons Racks. The rack withstood a violent crash and was able to protect another valuable piece of equipment and to keep that equipment securely in place. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to your staff for creating a solid piece of equipment with superb craftsmanship.
